Grand Bay
The 76 claim unit property was surveyed in January 2004 by gravity in order to outline a possible ultramafic body at depth that may be the cause of a large magnetic anomaly on the property. The Black sturgeon Fault, which is interpreted to be the failed arm of the Mid-Continental Rift (in Lake Superior), passes through the property and this series of faults control the entry of ultramafic rocks which host Ni-Cu-PGE deposits. One drill hole to 400m was drilled in 2001 that did not reach the magnetic target. Canplats Resources has earned a 50% interest and is carrying out the exploration program. A government gravity survey, was released in September of 2004 and located a gravity anomaly that coincided with the magnetic features. One drill hole was completed by Canplats in 2004-5 to a depth of 578m, and intersected both Nipigon olivine gabbro (sill) and Sibley sandstone-mudstone, as well as a gabbro in the basement of unknown age.
